Backpacker Bars

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, divided
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 cups sliced almonds
- 1 cup mini chocolate chips or 1 cup regular size chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped raisins
- 1 cup flaked coconut
Recipe
- 1 set oven to 350°.
- 2 grease a 13 x 9" baking pan.
- 3 cream butter, with 1 cup brown sugar.
- 4 stir in oats, wheat flour, flour, wheat germ and orange zest.
- 5 press mixture into bottom of prepared baking pan.
- 6 combine eggs, almonds, chocolate chips, raisins, coconut, and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar; mix gently, but thoroughly.
- 7 pour over butter mixture; spread evenly.
- 8 bake for 30-35 minutes.
- 9 cool before cutting into bars.
