Chili Con Carne

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck or 1 1/2 lbs ground round
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole tomatoes
  • 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 (16 ounce) can red kidney beans
  • 2 tablespoons green peppers or 2 tablespoons red peppers, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder or 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • 1 bay leaf

Recipe

  • 1 combine first 2 ingredients in dutch oven. brown meat; drain fat. add remaining ingredients; stir to blend. cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. remove bay leaf.
