Apple, Walnut And Coconut Crisp

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 4 granny smith apples
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup finely-chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup sweetened flaked coconut
  • 1/3 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup cold butter, cut into bits

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 375 degrees f (190c).
  • 2 butter a 9 inch square baking pan.
  • 3 peel, core and slice the apples into 1/3 inch slices.
  • 4 toss them in a large bowl with the lemon juice to prevent discolouration.
  • 5 layer the apples in the baking pan.
  • 6 combine the flour, oats, walnuts, coconut, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt and vanilla.
  • 7 add the butter and cut in until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  • 8 sprinkle over apples and bake in the middle of the oven for 35-40 minutes; or until topping is browned and apples are tender.
