Apple, Walnut And Coconut Crisp

Ingredients

- 4 granny smith apples
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup finely-chopped walnuts
- 1/3 cup sweetened flaked coconut
- 1/3 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup cold butter, cut into bits
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 375 degrees f (190c).
- 2 butter a 9 inch square baking pan.
- 3 peel, core and slice the apples into 1/3 inch slices.
- 4 toss them in a large bowl with the lemon juice to prevent discolouration.
- 5 layer the apples in the baking pan.
- 6 combine the flour, oats, walnuts, coconut, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, salt and vanilla.
- 7 add the butter and cut in until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- 8 sprinkle over apples and bake in the middle of the oven for 35-40 minutes; or until topping is browned and apples are tender.
