Black 'n' Brownies

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour, divided
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 1/4 cups butter, softened, divided
  • 4 tablespoons milk, divided
  • 1 (1 ounce) unsweetened chocolate square
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, divided
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, divided
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 grease a 9 by 13 dish.
  • 3 combine 3/4 cup flour, sugar, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • 4 stir in oats and coconut.
  • 5 melt 2/3 cup butter and add to mixture.
  • 6 add 2 tablespoons milk and mix well.
  • 7 press into dish and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • 8 remove from oven and reduce temperature to 325°f.
  • 9 melt 1/3 cup butter with the chocolate.
  • 10 in a large bowl, combine eggs, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  • 11 add melted chocolate and mix well.
  • 12 add 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt, and mix well.
  • 13 chop walnuts.
  • 14 stir in 1/2 cup walnuts.
  • 15 spread evenly over first layer and bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes.
  • 16 cool.
  • 17 meanwhile combine cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • 18 spread over cooled brownies.
  • 19 sprinkle 1/4 cup walnuts over the frosting.
  • 20 serve immediately or store in refridgerator.
