Chocolate Upside-down Cake

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 16
  • 1 (18 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
  • 3 eggs (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1/3 cup oil (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1 1/3 cups water (or as called for by your cake mix)
  • 1/2 cup margarine or 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 1/2 ounces flaked coconut
  • whipping cream (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 2 melt butter or margarine in a 13x9 pan.
  • 3 add water and sprinkle brown sugar evenly over pan.
  • 4 arrange coconut and nuts in sugar.
  • 5 mix cake as directed on package and pour batter over mixture in pan.
  • 6 bake at 350f 45-50 minutes til toothpick comes clean.
  • 7 let stand in pan 5 minutes for topping to set.
  • 8 turn upside down on a large platter or cookie sheet with sides.
  • 9 serve topped with whipping cream if desired.
